Final Round of the University’s Foreign Language Olympic Competition for the 2023-2024 school year with the theme “Global Citizen”

On the morning of March 28th 2024, Hai Phong University organized the final round of the University’s Foreign Language Olympic Competition for the 2023-2024 school year with the theme “Global Citizen”. This is an annual activity held by Hai Phong University to promote and encourage foreign language learning movement among students of the University. This is a knowledge competition helping students recognize the significance of learning foreign languages in the current era of integration.

Attending the competition, there were Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Vice president, Dr. Do Thi Thanh Toan, Head of Testing and Quality Assurance department, Mr. Cho Myong Rae, Director of Woori Bank Vietnam, Hai Phong Branch, the representatives of the sponsors including GCT Chinese Center, KAM Foreign Language Center, HANAMI Japanese Center, Tue Chinh Academy, AMES English Center, and teachers in the Faculty Party committee, Board of Deans of the Faculty of Foreign Languages, as well as the foreign experts and lecturers. Especially, there was the youthful and dynamic presence of 84 candidates from 18 participating teams and their numerous fans.

The 2024 Foreign Language Olympic Competition with the theme “Global Citizen” clearly demonstrated the training goals of Hai Phong University, Liberation - Service - Humanity. This year’s contest had the largest number of participants of nearly 700, competing in Chinese, Korean, Japanese and English categories. This year’s contest also received the attention of the enterprises and business organizations with the total scholarship value of 301.5 million VND.

In the opening speech, Dr. Nguyen Thi Thanh Nhan, Vice President emphasized that in today’s era, foreign languages are not only a tool to communicate and enjoy the cultural and artistic values of humanity, but also a means to live, study and work effectively in a multinational, multilingual and multicultural environment. Hai Phong University is proud to have 65 years of experience in foreign language training, providing high quality human resources with good foreign language skills for organizations, enterprises and schools inside and outside the city. To enhance the quality of foreign language training for students, the University always encourages the competitions at the University, regional and national level, creating opportunities for students to practice and challenge their learning abilities for their comprehensive development. The theme of this year’s contest was “Global Citizen”, inspiring students to learn about the issues that global community is concerned about, sharing and joining hands to solve, which helps students shape their values and personal abilities to prepare themselves for global integration.

 At the final round, 84 contestants were divided into 18 teams. Each team conveyed their confidence, strong will, foreign language proficiency, improvisation ability and flexibility on stage. There were three parts involving Warm-up, Situation handling and Debate. After nearly four hours, the teams completed the exciting and competitive competitions. 84 contestants confidently delivered sublime performances and shined on stage with their great understanding, wisdom and experience with the theme “Global Citizen”, spreading the beautiful image of the enthusiastic, dynamic, creative and modern students of Hai Phong University. At the end of the competition, the Organizing committee awarded the First Prize to five teams: Tuanjie (Category A), Kitto katto (Category B), Eomchinttal (Category C), Global pioneers (Category D), and Rocky team (Category E). The Second Prize went to Xiao xing xing (Category A), Yuki Tsubaki (Category B), Dream high (Category C), Emday (Category D), and Phoenix Reborn (Category E). The Third Prize belonged to Yixin (Category A), Dolphin (Category C), Phoenix (Category D), and The sharks (Category E). And four teams achieving the Consolation Prize included Feixiang (Category A), Kenchala (Category C), The Sphere (Category D), and Ascending (Category E).

The 2024 Foreign Language Olympic Competition with the theme “Global Citizen” took place successfully, clearly demonstrating the image of HPUni students: independent, creative global citizens in problem solving, integrated and responsible for the community, and highly adaptable under any circumstances.
